The next major chapter for the enterprise CMS TYPO3 is well underway: with the LTS release of version 14 in April 2026, one of the most significant versions in recent years is just around the corner. What can we expect?
Release timeline at a glance
The release dates are set:
- November 25, 2025 – TYPO3 v14.0: Breaking changes & foundation
- January 20, 2026 – TYPO3 v14.1: Feature integration
- March 31, 2026 – TYPO3 v14.2: Feature freeze
- April 21, 2026 – TYPO3 v14.3: LTS release (Long-Term Support) Typo3
For production environments, we generally recommend using the LTS version – only then is the feature set stable and most extensions are compatible.
What’s new in TYPO3 14?
Modernized backend
The menu structure has been fundamentally revised: “Web” is now called “Content,” “Files” has become “Media,” and “Admin Tools” is now “Administration.” In addition, a modernized top navigation bar with breadcrumb navigation has been introduced. This makes day-to-day work much more intuitive for editors.
Themes out of the box
TYPO3 v14 will, for the first time, be delivered with a default theme and introduces long-awaited support for reusable themes – based on the concepts of Site Sets and Content Blocks. This significantly accelerates the launch of new projects.
AI integration via the GenAI Toolbox
TYPO3 14 does not integrate AI directly into the core, but provides a new API layer: the GenAI Toolbox. This allows external AI services such as ChatGPT to be integrated into editorial workflows – enabling content to be generated, optimized, or summarized directly within the backend. The approach is modular and designed to be GDPR-compliant.
Improved translation workflow
For multilingual websites, TYPO3 introduces a new guided translation workflow as well as a language switcher in the backend, making it much easier to switch between language versions.
Fluid 5 & new APIs
The Fluid templating system has been updated to version 5 – offering improved performance, stronger typing, and a simplified handling of templates. A noticeable improvement for developers in everyday project work.
Simpler installation & migration
Upgrading from TYPO3 v13 to v14 is designed to be particularly straightforward: system upgrades are simplified and less risky, supported by clear documentation and automated processes.
Plan now – upgrade in time
TYPO3 12 LTS will be supported until April 2026, and TYPO3 13 LTS until October 2027. If you are still running version 12 or older, you should start planning now.
